Governing Body

A message from Ali Rutherford, Chair of Governors

I have worked in education for over 30 years, and I am now extremely proud to be the Chair of Governors at Hallaton Primary School.  I am delighted to be supporting such a devoted team of staff and Governors.  The school has consistently created a safe, calm and challenging environment that allows all pupils to flourish and develop the necessary skills to be successful during their primary years and beyond.

The dedication and commitment of the staff to provide high quality education has enabled children at Hallaton to have a unique experience.  This experience allows them to develop and grow not just academically but socially and emotionally.

The school's ethos and values are always at the forefront and the school continues to deliver excellent education and support to all their pupils and families.  The strong partnership between school and parents continues to allow the children of Hallaton School to receive a balanced education, becoming confident and independent learners.

The role of the Governing Body

Our aim is to provide a strategic view, ensure accountability and be a critical friend to the school. Governors have general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement and giving every child the opportunity to make good progress. The Governing Body has a largely strategic role, and we work in close partnership with the Headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school and staff, offering her support and advice. In particular, we are responsible for agreeing and setting appropriate targets for pupil achievement, managing the school’s budget and making sure the curriculum gives children the opportunity to be taught and learn well in our school. We have an increasing responsibility in improving standards of achievement in school.

The Governing Body and individual Governors are expected to conduct our business in a professional manner, with the focus on the best outcomes for children at the heart of all that we do, and to maintain and respect confidentiality at all times.
