Sport

Dedicated to sport

All pupils will have the opportunity to take part in developmental events, non-competitive skills days and specialist coaching from outside providers. We are firmly committed to sport and deliver a varied programme for all our children throughout the year. We work in partnership with Premier Sports and Core Dance to deliver a two hour P.E. lesson each week as well as offering a variety of before and after school clubs. Our dedicated sports coach delivers a programme of sports activities at lunchtimes.

We also give opportunities for the children to participate in competitive events, across two counties (Rutland and Leicestershire), in a variety of team and individual events. (See below schedule).

Additionally, children will have a 10 week block of swimming lessons from the age of 4 (EYFS) until the end of Year 3, ensuring that they are all water competent and confident.

Sports Premium Fund

In recent years, the Government has given additional funding to schools for physical education (PE) and sport. There are clear guidelines about how this money is to be used in schools. The Government expects schools “to achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools. It is important to emphasise that the focus of spending must lead to long lasting impact against the vision (below) that will live on well beyond the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.”

Vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium

All pupils to leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

  1. the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
  2. the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  3. increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. increased participation in competitive sport
